March 13th,
The University of Michigan defensive tackle, Will Johnson (nicknamed Paul Bunyan) set a new NFL record by bench pressing the standard 225 lbs. an amazing 47 times!
I am very excited to see him succeed by helping himself out with a stellar performance at his pro day today. He always has been a hard worker who possesses great character. And to think, Will wasn’t even invited to the NFL Combine….
He definitely made sure scouts know about him now!
If there was any question about him being drafted prior to today, I believe there is no longer any such doubt.
Attribute this victory not only to Johnson, but also to Michigan’s superior strength and conditioning coach Mike Barwis.
Way to go Will!
(NB: Johnson also ran 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds)

I’d never heard of the guy before your post, but, after doing a little bit of research, it looks like some people think he could go as high as the 5th round. You’d think some coach out there would have a place on his team for all that strength (and speed).
It takes more than getting it done in the weight room to succeed and be drafted in the NFL.
You mean to tell me the Wolverines had two NFL level DTs this year and they still didn’t go to a Bowl game?
Yeesh…
Yeah, it was a rough year for my Wolverines.
I know it takes more than weight room achievements to be drafted, but I think he was kind of a fringe draft pick before his Pro day. Now he may intrigue teams enough that he could be a 6th or 7th rounder.
I wish him great success
I went to highschool with Will and he is a good friend of mine. He doesnt deserve anything less. He has worked hard, dedicating himself to football since middle school. Good Job Big Will!!
That is awesome! I was always rooting for him to do well in the Michigan games. He strikes me as the hardworking humble guy that always gives his best and does what the coach asks of him. This was a great feat for him and for the wolverines program.
If you see him, make sure to tell him congratulations.
Did he have the nickname Paul Bunyan back in high school too?
Wow it seems no one is going to even notice mike godsil who did that 55 times and got eliminated from the draft he played at Liberty D-II
Can you find a link about him that confirms that number?
Thanks for sharing
it’s a good information
